Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. -Max Ehrmann, Desiderata

a much needed rest

July 10, 2008

We were rather busy for the past months. So for two weeks now, we’ve been taking it easy. Well, partly because I had some nasty stomach pains and a slight fever. But it went away after a couple of days. Overall, it’s all good. Last Sunday, we went to church at Bellevue, Alabang. We came just in time so we weren’t able to drop by the nearby McDonald’s and have breakfast. Towards the end of the service, we were discussing on where to eat. I have been hearing a lot of good reviews on Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL) that we decided to try it ourselves.

So at around 9:30 am, right after service, we headed straight for the nearest CBTL branch in Alabang Town Center (ATC). I ordered their Eggs Ben and the wife had their Brek O Day. My eggs benedict was delicious. An instant favorite. The ham was good, and the egg was just perfect, malasado, just the way I like it. It was smothered with this sauce that was absolutely delicious. After much googling, I found out that it was hollandaise sauce. I have no idea what that is so I asked a kin who goes to Enderun Colleges. I was kinda hoping we could duplicate the sauce at home, where it is much cheaper. Unfortunately, I forgot. So there. Will have to ask her for the recipe again. Anyway, the Eggs Ben that I had was very much like the one in the picture (right side) only the bread was toasted a little, which I like, and the hollandaise sauce was much more generous. Yummy! It also came with butter and jam, coffee, and some stewed fruits (i.e., dates). I am not a bread and butter kind of guy, but I enjoyed this serving. The bread was different. I don’t know. The wife’s Brek O Day had sausages, scrambled eggs, and coffee, which was also good. Here’s a pic I also borrowed from sixthseal.com and kainpinoy.com. I really need to bring our camera whenever we get out.

CBTL only had a few customers that morning so we were able to savor the quiet alone time. It was nice having times like this. Just me and the wife with good food and coffee. I can’t wait till our next CBTL experience. Reviews say their pistachio sans rival is also good, which was out of stock that day. They also have really good sandwiches. And guess what? After breakfast, the mall opened, and what better way to shed those calories than walking around. The wife ended up buying a very much needed bag. At 2 PM, we headed home to watch Friends on DVD. It was a great day of rest and relaxing.
