Last Saturday was a day of ladybugs and flowers for Cassie’s first birthday. My wife was asked by our friend Mimmy Jo (Cassie’s mom) to dress up the party place and provide a hundred cupcakes. Her friend J. (sure sign that we’ve been watching too much Gossip Girl) was called to help. So the whole night they were busy plotting ways to pimp the event, baking, and making the balloons and centerpieces. I did help with some of the balloons though, but was sent (more like kicked) to the other room because they want to have some girl talks, and not because I was clowning around and making more of a mess. So anyway, here’s our mess, I mean, their efforts!
First off are the flower cupcakes. I have no idea how she did this. Very nice! And pretty!
Next are the ladybug cupcakes. Again, clueless as to how she did these! The eyes and spots are tiny little chocolate chips!
And finally a round up of the balloons and centerpieces.
Sorry Sheng, it was wiped out! Some of the guests weren’t even able to taste it!
Posted by thehusbandspeaks at September 3, 2008, 1:49 pmGreat Article! Recent research shows that yes Ladybugs do migrate at the end of the summer/early fall, but if the Do-it-your self farmer/gardener can improve the stay of their friendly Ladybug herd by providing them a nesting box, home or house. They eat other insects besides aphids like plant lice, whitefly and scale insects. Two years of research show that most ladybugs leave to look for a home they make home from a squirrel hollowed out hole in a tree where they become pray from birds. I have had good luck with a house designed for the Convergent lady beetle, Scientific name: Hippodamia convergens, which is native to California. The Best Lady Bug House takes in consideration of their basic needs: Location, Food, Shelter, Protection , and a nourishing Environment.

You know how GIRLS RULE, hehehe…kidding! Those cupcakes looks so good! I wonder how many hours it took to make those.
Yummy, yummy! The cupcake I tasted (got the chocolate one) was so moist and tasty! RJ’s really got it going with her baking and decorating! Pwde talagang i-career! Thanks btw for the pics : )
Posted by Tricia at September 4, 2008, 2:14 pmLaisseraller: That’s very, uhm…, interesting.
Jetty: She baked the cupcakes the day before for around 20 minutes per batch. I was in charge of the alarm, which is the only thing I’m good at as far as baking is concerned.
Tricia: To bad you didn’t get to taste the flower ones, which I think tasted so much better.
Posted by thehusbandspeaks at September 5, 2008, 8:02 amlooooove the cupcakes! i hesitated to eat it at first, though, coz it would ruin the fabulous design. hehe.
Pretty, pretty! I miss the gourmet cupcakes back home!
Posted by witsandnuts at September 6, 2008, 5:30 amHmmm…like most guys, getting “kicked” out of doing jobs in the kitchen is a planned strategy.
Of course, now I’m hungry and off to see what’s in my kitchen that has lots of sugar. Great photos…I like how the colors pop and use of depth of field.
Posted by Scott at September 6, 2008, 11:13 pmmordsth: They really are too pretty to eat!
witsandnuts: Well if you do come back, even for a visit, let me know so the wife can make some for you. Okay, I mean for us.
Scott: And here I thought I was posting such crappy photos. Thanks man! I plan to take photo lessons next year.
Posted by thehusbandspeaks at September 7, 2008, 8:06 pmmaybe your wife can supply my wife some of her baking needs.we live here in Lipa and it will be cheaper if she have a supplier of her baking needs for her hobby.
