Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. -Max Ehrmann, Desiderata

foster parents

October 22, 2008

Every Sunday, we become the default parents of Yuan (my wife’s nephew). For over a month now, we’ve been bringing him to church every Sunday morning. On his first church visit though, we stayed at the “cry room” for fear of him crying and disturbing the church services. Since he just slept through it, on our next visits, we settled into a seat in the main auditorium, near the door, just in case. The big boy behaved. Not a sound. Just sleeping. Of course my wife was carrying him the whole time. I was in charge of material handling. And by that I mean having his trusty milk bottle and a pack of diapers and wet tissues! I get to hold him after services though.

Last Sunday, after church, while I was driving, he pooped right there in the car. You wouldn’t believe the smell. We have to roll down the windows and breathe polluted air rather than that smell. Funny enough, my MIL and SIL were scrambling at the back seat. I really think the fumes were getting to them. There was shouting and laughing. It was really crazy. Just look at the bad boy playing innocent here.

Sheng: He really was! And when you talk to him, he just smiles.

Mai: He’s currently on formula and stopped being breast fed. Maybe that’s why.

Jeanny: Good thing he didn’t do it during the service. THAT would have been a problem.

Mordsith: Wait till you smell it. Tatay level!
