The forecasts by economists (and by economists I mean GMA and other government slugs) and financial leaders are so confusing that we are left more dumfounded on what’s really happening. The government says we’re doing okay, but others say that we better brace ourselves. I’m not really that worried. Filipinos aren’t afraid of tightening our belts. We’ve gone through much worse. We’ve lived through the Marcos regime, the Asian Financial crisis, El Nino, La Nina, and even Kris Aquino’s love life and Erap, not to mention the sex scandals (saved in flash drive, memory cards, and, would you believe, available in dibidis
) that every struggling wannabe seems to have. Nothing can really affect us. These are all entertainment for us.
Nevertheless, Money Smarts has this list of suggestions in prepping our finances. Be sure to check back the site later and read the comments, which I’m sure is filled with a lot more tips.
A comment there says to look for second source of income or sideline. So far, we’re currently doing everything on the list .We hope to finish number 4 by the end of the year. Life will be so much better being debt free.
Hubz and I decided to cut one of our credit card and use only one to lessen monthly dues. Saving 2k plus a year is something
Thanks for the tips and have a great weekend

Jeanny: We also plan to retain just one card. We currently have none at moment.
Posted by thehusbandspeaks at November 21, 2008, 1:21 pmShop more responsibly.
Postpone vacations.
Postpone big purchases.
I’ll get a grade of F in these categories, especially the vacations. I’m already thinking of the next one!
But I’m proud to say I know how to save!
i have another suggestion: cut down on restaurant dining and cook at home instead. whenever i receive my credit card bill, 70% at least goes to food expenses eaten outside the house. my husband and i are trying to eat out less and eat at home more frequently. good luck sa amin, haha!
Posted by glenville at November 21, 2008, 8:59 pmpack a sandwich for lunch, a small tub of yogurt, and sliced fruits, rather than eating out. try to use public transport as often as possible. don’t buy on credit, buy only when you can afford it in cash. and lastly, be content with what you have and don’t keep up with the jones’s. cheers to practical living!
