I screen movies before I go see them on the big screen. When the movie looks alright by my standards, meaning it wouldn’t make much of a difference when I see it in cinemas or on a tv mount at home, I choose to get it in dibidi. Films that make it into this category are usually those that don’t have awesome special effects but are good films nonetheless. Still, movies that have a lot of special effects and CGI (no idea what that is, but I always hear it, so I thought I’d slip it in to sound more credible, hehe), which I love, are always worth seeing in the cinemas.
I read Watchmen around three or four years ago. Needless to say, I’ve forgotten some of the details. Last night, after much prodding and pleading and begging, my wife agreed to watch it with me. I thoroughly enjoyed the awesome fight scenes: The Comedian versus Ozymandias, and Nite Owl and Rorschach versus Ozymandias. Just awesome. One scene that made me smile was when Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl did it on Archie, his owl-shaped air ship, not mainly because of the sex but becasue of the cheesy Leonard Cohen Halleluyah background music while doing it. I also enjoyed the 80s background music throughout the movie. Although the movie’s rated R-13, expect to see lots and lots of violence (I did mention the awesome fight scenes), particularly when winding back to Rorschach’s past, also lots of frontal nudity from Dr. Manhattan (he is afterall naked), and some sex scenes.
If you’re a guy, you’ll surely like this. If you’re a girl, you’ll be bored to death (like my wife), but get yourself some great points by seeing this with your guy. Despite the mixed reviews, I liked the film. But don’t just take my word for it, go see it yourself.
We thought we had it all figured out. My wife’s a bit obsessive-compulsive when it comes to planning out things like these so we had a time table. Everything was planned, even my laziness.
After office work, which is usually around 2 PM, or 4 PM when we have OT work, we had this schedule.
Wednesday: shop for supplies, wife makes fondant toppers, and Rico folds a few boxes (told you I’m lazy).
Thursday: wife did the bake fest and Rico was supposed to fold a few more, but playing computer games was much more fun, so I skipped folding.![]()
Friday: wife makes frosting, Rico folds more boxes, and then assemble the whole thing.
Saturday: Delivery day.
So here they are. Even I think they’re too pretty to eat. She made some vanilla and chocolate cupcakes in blue buttercream frosting overlaid with white fondant toppers, with Vito’s name embedded.
And some more chocolate cupcakes in white buttercream frosting overlaid with blue fondant toppers, again with Vito’s name embedded.
Putting everything together, we came up with this. So what did I do to help? Well, aside from the very hard part of picking the best batch, and watching from the sidelines, I did print and cut the stickers while watching Padma Lakshmi in Top Chef, Season 2 (which would have been great if we had home theater seating). Marcel lost to Ilan.
Here they are. All 75 pieces of them. I stuck a styrofoam on one side to make it sturdy. All ready for delivery.
