Since we were at a mall several days ago to have lunch, we decided to do some window shopping and check out some of the toddler bikes, in addition to the baby jogger stroller, on the department store. We were out hunting for my SIL’s 10-month-old baby Yuan. Here are some pics from his choices.
He obviously liked the blue Mickey Mouse and the green Winnie the Pooh bikes
but was a bit uneasy with the pink Barbie (I think?) bike. Big yay! Your daddy will be proud! But the one that really caught his attention was this toy dog that hops and barks. I’m sure you’ve also seen one of those in mall bazaars.
And even when we were walking away, he kept on looking. At 10 months, he’s very fascinated with dogs, cats, and birds, and would break his neck gawking at these animals. Here’s the kicker. My FIL is quite fond of watching horse races and now Yuan too gets all excited when he sees horses on TV. Can you imagine what his first words would be?
A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning, while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hang the wash outside.
That laundry is not very clean, she said, she doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.
Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: “Look! She has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this.”
The husband said: “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows!”
And so it is with life: “What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look. Before we give any criticism, it might be a good idea to check our state of mind and ask ourselves if we are ready to see the good rather than to be looking for something in the person we are about to judge.”
Sometimes, okay most of the time, we are very quick when judging others. We make snide comments about them when in fact we don’t really know them. We have this superiority complex. We think we’re so much better. We often encounter people we hate the instant we see and/or hear them, but after some time, we realize that they’re not that terrible. Some people just need a good scrubbing (like a dirty porcelain tile or an uncut diamond) to look and be better. The world could be so much better with a little respect, giving the benefit of the doubt, that regardless of what our initial impression might be, there’s a gem beneath all that.
Health is wealth. How many times have we heard that before, right? While this has been considered by many as a cliche, it’s very, very true. We can never take our health for granted and risk having diseases we could have avoided in the first place. Think mesothelioma from asbestos exposure, lung cancer from cigarettes, HIV/AIDS from PMS, you get the picture. And I won’t pester you with details on how to do it. I’m quite certain you know what needs to be done.
My wife and I were feeling bloated from all the meats that we’ve been eating that we decided to detox starting last Sunday by limiting our rice and meat intake to breakfast, eating only fruits the rest of the day, and dinner consisting of oatmeal and more fruits. Helping all this go down is a pitcher of pineapple juice. We plan to continue having oatmeal and fruits for dinner till the rest of the week. May rice naman sa breakfast and lunch.
I’m missing my bacon.
