Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. -Max Ehrmann, Desiderata

working abroad

February 5, 2010

May balak ka bang mag-abroad? (Do you have plans of working abroad?)

I can’t recall the many times that my wife and I have been asked this question.

My father was an OFW so I know how it is when a member of the family is working abroad.

But I still believe that we can make it here. Most of the people I now who are working or who migrated someplace else work at least 12 hours a day or maybe have two jobs. If only we have the same drive here. And with technology vastly changing the way we communicate, it’s now more easy to advertise one’s products and/or services not just here but also abroad. I’ve read success stories of people selling home-made cell phone signal booster online who was contacted by a foreign national that wanted to resell it in his place too. Now she’s prosperous. There are many more stories like this. Take note that most of these people have very limited schooling, but they somehow made it.

Now if they can do it, I see no reason why we shouldn’t at least try.

hi rico, i share the same sentiments. as long as my husband and I can afford it, we would continue to choose to live in our beloved Pilipinas. I would really like to move to the suburbs/probinsiya though where the air is cleaner and the food fresher (and everything cheaper). pero as it is, i love living in the Philippines. the lifestyle here is not as stressful, you are not a second-class citizen, you have access to a variety of tropical goodness including paradise islands/beaches, the yummiest mangoes, the most diverse fruits and veggies, the freshest fish, some help in the household (and it wouldn’t cost too much unlike in first world countries where only the rich and famous have access to house help), maybe a family driver if you earn a little more than the usual, A LOT of good good sunlight…my list is endless. there are lots of reasons why staying is a really good option if you have a job here anyway. but of course the best reason is: in Pilipinas, you are home. and your family is here to back you up. sorry long comment :) i’m quite passionate re: staying in Philippines if you can
