And so I finally saw our Meralco bill. I’ve been reading some bad things over the Internet about surging electrical bills. Many people saw that their electricity bills almost doubled! And we are no exception. And to think we are saving as much as we can in preparation for the coming baby. I can’t even buy that ps3 that I’ve been wanting for so long, although I do like the new Ipad better, hehe.
Anyway, people are clamoring for a good explanation on why our government allowed the power hike. There’s this joke going around that because of the utterly humiliating commencement speech fiasco of Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), the Meralco big boss, he hiked up the prices so we would all suffer from his wrath.
So I would like to appeal to MVP to please lower the rates and we all promise to stop making fun of that plagiarism issue. At least not when he is around.
Or maybe we could type in really small fonts so it doesn’t seem like a big issue.
P.S. Have you read The Professional Heckler’s take on the plagiarism issue? No? Read here. And be sure to pass it along too. Cheers!
P.P.S. Oh, have you read MVP’s apology lettter to Father Ben? Read here. Seriously? I have been told? Susme! So that’s why he needs a speech writer. Major FAIL!
It just occurred to me that between me and my wife’s families, there’ll be four babies this year. My sister gave birth to Ace just last Easter Sunday. That leaves my wife’s cousin in July or August, my wife in September, and another cousin of my wife in October. I tell you, when He blesses you, He does it abundantly!
Yesterday, while driving home from work, my wife said “Can you believe that there’s a tiny person living inside me?” And I said “Ang galing talaga ni God noh!” And we both laughed, remembering KG’s story of how she’d change the subject when her daughter Wendy asks about babies and where they came from (read about it here).
But seriously, just like the best joint supplement out there, how babies are made is really amazing.
I recently learned about these two important lessons that I’d like to share. The first is from old friend here in the office. It’s not new or original, but it’s a gentle reminder.
Your husband/wife/partner should make you a better person.
Which makes sense, right? I mean, why bother being with a person that’ll just make you mean and indifferent. The person you’re with should bring out the best in you and not give you wrinkles (click here for treatments) and more stress (click here to relieve some stress).
And the other is from Paulo Coelho. He said in one of his blog posts that:
…make goodness such an ordinary thing that there would be no need to praise those who practice it.
And I couldn’t agree more.
Last week, Yuan started attending daycare. How time flies so fast. Pretty soon, he’d be a grown up just like us and would be worrying about the best diet supplement. But now, he’s barely two years old.
Yuan had a great time on his first day, most probably because one of his parents was there watching over. See him play on the slides. He looked so brave and happy despite that not so graceful first time alone in the slides. And look, he wants to do it again!
But on the following days that they left him alone, he wouldn’t drink his milk and would instead just cry. He looked so kawawa that his parents gave up daycare for now. I somehow pity kids these days. I remember going to kindergarten when I was already 5 years old. I didn’t even had to go to daycare and nursery. But I guess life was different back then.
It’s been an emotional roller coaster for us CEDs here in the office. For a couple of months now, we’ve been having discussions on whether we’ll receive performance incentives (PIs) this year. When we all got back after the Holy Week vacation, we got word that only the heads and managers will receive PIs. Then, yesterday morning, we got word that we wouldn’t get any. In the afternoon, an old colleague confirmed the PIs. It was rumored to be released today but got delayed (maybe next week?).
A few minutes ago, we got another juicy bit of rumor that the 14th month bonus for all employees has been approved. Of course we’re all jumping for joy at the thought of receiving bonuses and finally affording one Wholesale Insurance life insurance quote, but like the PIs, it’s all part of the office rumor.
These rumors are so stressful! I wish they’d just cut the surprise crap and honestly admit it. The rumors can get so frustrating sometimes.
Meron ba o wala?

I would oftentimes find myself asking if this is all there is. If what I have now is the best that I can do. You know how some people say that they are content on having just a few simple things in life, you know, those people who preach that they are happy as long they are together. Well, for me and my wife, we want the best that life can offer. It’s not about material possessions or money, it’s about enjoying life to the fullest!
Now more than ever have I been aware of the great opportunities out there. It’s amazing how some people complain at the lack of jobs and money. I say one just needs to really look. And if you can’t have that great job/business that you really like, then settle for one that you hate for the meantime. Then equip yourself. Make yourself the right man for that dream job/business.
My wife and I were talking one night about the huge opportunities out there and what we can do to get it. I’m urging my wife to get one of those gmat prep reviews so she can better arm herself and start that dream business. I on the other hand will be venturing out on my own too and will get the needed knowledge to pursue my dreams.
It might take a while to better ourselves, but the rewards will be awesome.
If there is a way to make your life better, wouldn’t you take that chance?
My brother joined me and my wife for the trip back home to the province, whereas my sister and her husband stayed here in Manila. However, our Holy Week vacation was cut short, and we rushed back to Manila with my mom when we received word that my sister is about to give birth.
She was dilated 6 cm when we arrived at the Chinese General Hospital, and the staff told us that it’ll still be awhile before she gives birth (best to bring something to read like diet pill review and other books and magazines while waiting).
After a few more hours, the newest addition to our growing family is born. Happy Birthday Ace!
When I was a child, during Holy Week, I would revel at the opportunity to watch street plays about Jesus’ last days on Earth, to which my father (who plays the high priest Caiaphas), uncles, and aunts take part.
While some practices like this are still celebrated, many people choose to spend this time in vacations. And who can blame us? With the busy hours that life in general demands, this is the only free time we’ve got. But wherever we may be this Holy Week, either in plush accommodations with faux wood blinds in some fancy beach hotel or in the comforts of our homes, we must take time and offer ourselves to God. He is after all the one who gives everything. Every blessing, favor, and promotion. He gave it. And I’m pretty sure he doesn’t mind where we are while doing this. If you had nothing but troubles in your life, why not take a breather this time and seek him out. You never know. You might like Him. And then more wonderful and awesome things will follow.
You know how I always talk about blessings and favors and opportunities? It’s because I found Him.
Have a blessed week everyone!
